After White Supremacists Marched Through Campus, UVA Grapples With Change

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. ― More than 100 students crammed into the University of Virginia’s Newcomb South Meeting Hall last month for a student council meeting that quickly devolved into volleys of shouts and anger. David Birkenthal, chair of the representative body, banged his gavel repeatedly to restore order. The council […] Click here to view original web page at...

Guy Benson Gets Trump’s Comment About The Anthem Controversy Right!

I agree with Guy Benson, a self-professed Conservative, in his statement below.   “My overall reaction to the anthem controversy, kicked into hyper-drive by President Trump’s remarks in Alabama Friday night, has been frustrated and mixed. I’m deeply turned off by players who disrespect the flag and the anthem by refusing to stand. I also recognize that the men and women who’ve died defending that flag did so to protect the fundamental rights of American citizens, including free speech and expression. Athletes have a right to make their own choices regarding the anthem, but that doesn’t make their decisions...

A Conservative Speaks Truth To His Right Wing

Great post on RedState.com about the GOP Right Wing and why it is hard for many in the GOP to support their views about the Civil War. Jim Jamitis uses a recent post in thestate.com defending slavery. Jim says, “Worrying about what the left might do next is less of an issue for me than knowingly allying myself with people like this. This is not a person who understands what liberty means. He has no grasp of what “all men are created equal” means. He has a pretty questionable idea of what “Christian” means as well.  I don’t want...

Berkeley’s New Free Speech Website adds Greatly Our Learning Community

This is a new website from Cal Berkeley.    I love the quote, “Free speech doesn’t come from a simple declaration. It is a process of engagement.” This fits the learning community perfectly.  And you use “Blockchains” to track the process. There should be a way to take the learning from this and other unique learning communities.  There is.  Assign met-tags and use a BlockChain to track each packet (post, page, graphic, video). I put it here in Racism Definitions because we need to have a definition of Free Speech   Free speech is one of UC Berkeley’s most...

Erick Erickson Unwittingly Provides a Great Example of Bias Reporting and Fake News

Erick Erickson unwittingly provided a great example we can use to discuss media literacy and bias reporting, with his latest post “Why Should Anyone Condemn White Nationalists If the Left Won’t Condemn Antifa?” Before I talk about Erick’s inflammatory post, I want to make sure we agree on our basic terms. You see, Erick Erickson used a few biased arguments.  Here are just two I noticed in just his first paragraph: False Dichotomy, Faulty Dilemma, Bifurcation.  Erick Erickson assumes there are only two alternatives when in fact there are more. For example, assuming Atheism is the only alternative to...
